Who did Macbeth have Key Relationships with?
Within the story of Macbeth, Macbeth has many different relationships with many different people which all contribute to the tragic story line.
Lady Macbeth – Lady Macbeth was the wife of Macbeth and she is his main relation within the play as she is one of the two people who, throughout the whole play knew of Macbeth's plans to kill the king. Lady Macbeth is extremely important to the play as she is the driving force behind his plans and the is the one person who is sure that what the couple is doing is right, even when Macbeth is very doubtful of what he is going to do and what will be the repercussions of what he does. Lady Macbeth also plays and important role as Macbeth's partner as she is the person who in the end commits the deed of killing Duncan as Macbeth killed his servants to place the blame on them without anyone else knowing what they had done.
Banquo - Banquo was Macbeth’s closest friend before his uprising to King of Scotland. Banquo was alongside Macbeth for most of act 1 and Banquo is also with Macbeth when he is told of his future by the Three Weird Sisters. Throughout the story Macbeth and Banquo's relationship slowly breaks apart as Macbeth starts to see Banquo as a threat to his overall plans to kill the king and take over the throne of Scotland. This progresses as Macbeth become threatened by Banquo's knowledge of his plans. This leads to Macbeth hiring three murderers to kill Banquo and his Son Fleance so that they do not tell of Macbeths plans. This is disrupted by Fleance escaping and warning the others of Macbeths plans.
The tree Weird Sisters - The three weird sisters have a key relationship with Macbeth as they are the ones who predict Macbeth’s future. Macbeth is constantly referring to their predictions throughout the play as is is certain that he cannot be stopped while on his quest for the throne but what Macbeth does not know is that there is a fatal flaw to his plan and that is his own ambitiousness.
